The Danger of Deception
Acts 5:1-6; 1 Timothy 6:9-10

Ananias and Sapphira's story shocks us, but it reveals a timeless truth: we cannot lie to God. Their sin wasn't in keeping some money—Peter made clear the property was theirs to do with as they wished. Their sin was pretending to be more generous than they were, seeking human praise while deceiving the Holy Spirit. The love of money had captured their hearts. Money itself isn't evil, but our craving for it leads to destruction. It promises security, significance, and satisfaction—things only God can provide. When we trust in wealth rather than God, we've committed spiritual adultery. Ask yourself: Am I content with what God has provided? Do I give generously or grudgingly? Is money my master or my tool?
